Status update: OCT 20-2009

Dear Residents of La Gorce -- The last two months of our lives have been, at a minimum, most trying and sad. No one expected the water pump to fail and cause the extreme damage that we have experienced. While every cloud has a silver lining, however, this one is hard to see and comes at great personal cost for all of us.

The insurance companies have accepted the claim. They are, however, fighting us in subtle and none too subtle ways. Despite significant gamesmanship by the carrier and its adjusters, we have managed to secure a $350,000 advance to pay part of our costs. We are working diligently to secure the significant additional expenses we have incurred and are incurring.

Not a day goes by that either Ana Maria Escalona or I do not dedicate several hours to such effort. Further, our manager, Miguel Diaz, and his salaried assistants. Juan Diego Umana and Mario Tortorra, have put in countless hours trying to put this building back in shape. Their efforts have been significant and deserve our gratitude.

We are aiming to complete the electrical work by the end of this week, but are dependent on Siemens to send us two pieces of the electrical bus bars that flow current to our elevators and AC that they manufactured incorrectly. I am in communication with them and have made our demands well known, not to mention our extreme disappointment with their error.

The only real good that is coming from this is that when all is said and done we ought to have a renovated building that is updated in great respect. We believe the insurance carrier is responsible for significant costs and expenses associated with such renovation and will vigorously pursue all rights and remedies.
